Velindre receive an incredible £6,000 donation via NFU Mutual’s Agency Giving Fund.
Velindre was nominated by NFU Mutual Agents and staff at the Bridgend & Swansea agency to receive an incredible £6,509 donation via the Agency Giving Fund.
The charity is incredibly grateful to receive this donation and these vital funds will support the charity in funding possibly-life changing work at Velindre Cancer Centre and beyond. Thanks to the funds raised by our incredible supporters, we are able to invest over £2 million a year into cancer research trials and fund the development of new cancer treatments and be part of the development of cancer pathways in Wales.
NFU Mutual, a leading rural insurer, hosts a £1.92 million ‘Agency Giving Fund’ to help frontline charities across the country. The Agency Giving Fund forms part of NFU Mutual’s £3.25m funding pledge for both local and national charities in 2024, to assist with the ongoing recovery from the pandemic and to help tackle the impact of the rising cost of living. To ensure these donations reach all corners of the UK and are directed to where they’re needed most, all NFU Mutual Agencies with more than 280 offices nationwide, have been given the opportunity to nominate local charities to receive a share of the fund.
Now in it’s 5th year of the fund, Velindre Charity have been fortunate to benefit from this incredible offering following the charity being nominated by the NFU Mutual Agents and staff at the Bridgend & Swansea agency.
Julian Kelly, Senior Agent at NFUM and Velindre Ambassador, said “We’re extremely proud to have nominated Velindre for this donation and are delighted to be able to support the vital contribution they make to our community. NFU Mutual’s Agency Giving Fund was first created in 2020 in response to the pandemic, and this ongoing support is helping to change lives, providing both emergency support and building long -term resilience.”
Julian Kelly is an ongoing supporter at Velindre and we are very proud to have him onboard as one of our charity ambassadors. Julian began his fundraising efforts as an am back in 2014 with a bike ride in Boston New York and held his most recent fundraising event over the weekend in the form of a charity lunch supported by many family and friends. This charity lunch marks a decade since he began fundraising and took his fundraising total raised to £100,549! He is now looking forward to his next fundraising event which takes place in November and is a 625km bike ride from Coco Beach to Key West, Florida. His just giving page link is below!

The difference the funds can make.
Here at the charity, our donors and fundraisers give us the ability to go above and beyond for our patients and the services we can offer them here at Velindre. We fund a wide range of projects, services and roles over and above what is available via the NHS, this way we can ensure patients and their families are cared for in the best way possible whilst receiving treatment with us.
The charity funds 50% of all Specialist Nurses at the cancer centre, our specialist nurses are on hand to provide ongoing support to their patients and support them every step of the way. The compassion and comfort provided by our nurses is invaluable and that’s thanks to our supporters and fundraisers.
Alongside our Specialist Nurses the charity has developed a range of Children support services. It’s very common that one of the biggest anxieties experiences by our patients is the effect their diagnosis will have on those around them. These children’s services are designed to ease that worry and help adults explain to children what they are going through and support the children in dealing with this change. Our children’s services range from our series of children’s story books ‘Caring for my Family with Cancer’ and accompanying Lion teddies to our memory box sessions in which children can create boxes filled with reminders of their loved ones.
These are just two examples of the amazing projects funded by your donations, none of this would be possible without our supporters and we are so grateful.
