We would like to wish all our incredible fundraisers and supporters a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

We have had another very successful year thanks to your amazing fundraising efforts. Through your hard work, dedication and support, Velindre is rightly recognized as Wales’ premier Cancer Centre. As well as the financial benefits, the awareness raised from the fundraising events and activities ensures Velindre’s profile stays high in the eyes of the public and this helps encourage others to fundraise for us too!

Money raised and donated to Velindre is used to fund things over and above those provided by the NHS, and it’s those things that make such a difference here at the hospital. Here are just a few examples of projects, services and equipment funded by fundraising money last year:

  • Specialist Cancer Nurses
  • Refurbishment of the First Floor Inpatient Ward
  • Wigs, hair pieces and /or head scarves for patients
  • Continuation & Development of Phase 1 Trials Activity
  • Zeiss Observer Z1 Microscope
  • Scalp Cooling Equipment
  • Free Wifi throughout the hospital

Great British & Irish Lions Head Coach Warren Gatland, Velindre President Jonathan Davies and the Lions mascot 'BIL' paid a special Christmas visit to Velindre and met with staff and patients. Click here to watch a video of the visit.

Lions will be supporting Velindre with their Leading the Lions Cardiff Dinner on February 10 2017 and you could be there!

The Welsh Guards, Santa & Friends paid their annual Christmas visit to Velindre this week handing out gifts to our patients and staff and spreading Christmas cheer! A huge thank you to Dreams & Wishes Charity for organising this.

The Heart To Heart Christmas Appeal has been very popular this year. There have been lots of donations and lovely messages put on our virtual Christmas tree such as this one:

"For my wonderful husband, Gareth. I love you and miss you so, so much. Thanks to the staff at Velindre for all the great care you gave. xx"

There is still time to put your special message on our virtual Christmas tree and support Velindre this Christmas. Please click here to make your donation and write your message.
