Double Triathlon World Champion and Team GB athlete, Helen Jenkins, is urging people to get fit and give Triathlon a go, specifically the Cardiff Triathlon 2017 in aid of Velindre Cancer Centre.

Having won the ITU World Championships in 2008 & 2011, representing Wales in the Commonwealth Games and also Team GB in both London 2012 and Rio 2016, Helen knows all there is to know about the triple discipline sport.
Helen will be sharing her knowledge and experience by offering her own training tips and race day advice to all participants who enter the Cardiff Triathlon in aid of Velindre Cancer Centre, as she support Velindre’s ‘HeadFirst Brain Tumour Research’. The Appeal, launched to increase the awareness and raise the profile of brain and spinal cord tumour research in Wales, has had a huge injection of funds thanks to a current brain tumour patient and a close friend of Helen, Mike Evans, and his supporters known as Team Evsy. There will also be an opportunity for Velindre’s Triathlon participants to meet Helen at a special vest presentation held closer to the race, at Wales’ premier Cancer Centre in Whitchurch, Cardiff.

“I am delighted that Velindre Fundraising is the chosen charity of the Cardiff Triathlon for the third year. As someone who has close friends being treated at Velindre currently, I know of the excellent care and treatment that happens there. If you’re tempted to take on a Triathlon then I’d urge you to take one of Velindre’s charity places and raise some vital funds at the same time!”

Michael Locke, Fundraiser for Velindre Cancer Centre said “It’s incredible for Velindre to have the backing of such a highly regarded and successful athlete as Helen. The funds raised from our volunteers participation, along with the amazing levels of awareness raised from the Cardiff Triathlon is vital to continuing the high level of research, treatment and care that we’re able to provide at Velindre Cancer Centre.”

Tim Lloyd, Director of Always Aim High Events said: ‘We are absolutely delighted to have Velindre Cancer Centre as our official charity partner once again for the Cardiff Triathlon in 2017. We are hugely excited at Helen Jenkins involvement, and hope that it will encourage more people to sign up and raise as much money as possible for such a vital and deserving charity.’
